Venerable Dr. Varabuddhi

Venerable Dr. Varabuddhi currently serves as the chief monk of Mahamuni Theravada Buddhist Monastery (MTBM) in Minnesota, USA. His journey in the Dhamma began in Western Myanmar, Rakhine State, where he ordained as a monk at the tender age of 12.
He received his primary monastic education at his native village monastery and furthered his studies at the Paññā Pāramī Pāli Institute in Ponnagyun. At the age of 20, he underwent higher ordination, “upasampada,” at Danyawady Missionary Monastery in Rangoon, Myanmar.
Venerable Dr. Varabuddhi’s quest for knowledge led him to Thailand and Sri Lanka, where he pursued higher education from prestigious modern universities. He earned the following degrees:
- Bachelor of Arts in English Major from the Faculty of Humanities, Mahachulalongkornrajavidayalaya University, Chaing Mai Campus, Thailand.
- Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies from Postgraduate Pali and Buddhist Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.
- Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies from Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Buddhist Studies, Buddhist Ayurvedic Psychiatry, and Counseling from Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies, Manelwatta, Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.
- Doctor of Philosophy in Buddhist Studies from Postgraduate Pali and Buddhist Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.
Currently, Venerable Dr. Varabuddhi holds the esteemed position of principal monk and President of MTBS in Minnesota, USA. He is also actively involved as a member of the implementation committee for the Buddhist University of Arakan (BUA) located in Sittwe, Rakhine State, Myanmar.
