“Unveiling the Path of Buddha’s Teachings: Dr. Surachai Unchern’s Journey from Scholar to Spiritual Guide”

Meet Dr. Surachai Unchern, a retired scholar and researcher with a profound passion for Buddha’s teachings. With 36 years of experience as a faculty member in Pharmacology at Chulalongkorn University, he was recognized as a “Role Model Teacher” in 2003. Throughout his career, Dr. Unchern traveled to Japan, mainly the University of Tokyo, for Ph.D. studies and groundbreaking research in Neuropharmacology.

After retiring from Chulalongkorn University, he continued his academic journey at Siam University’s Faculty of Medicine. However, health issues led him to retire once more in 2016, prompting him to embrace a peaceful life at home.

In July 2017, seeking spiritual enlightenment, Dr. Unchern embarked on a transformative journey. He took bhikkhu ordination at the Buddhist Thai Temple in Vaishali, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, India. During his time as a bhikkhu, he dedicated himself to teaching Dhamma to Indian sāmaṇeras and sāmaṇeris.

Though he eventually returned from monkhood, Dr. Unchern’s quest for knowledge and understanding of Therāvāda Buddhism remained unwavering. Today, he actively delves into the depths of Buddha’s teachings, continuously seeking and propagating what he believes to be the authentic Dhamma to fellow Buddhists worldwide. Join us on a captivating journey as we explore the profound wisdom and teachings of Buddha through the eyes of Dr. Surachai Unchern, a scholar turned spiritual guide.
