Ven. Tan Paññādīpa (PhD.)
Brief Resume of Ven. Dr. Tan Paññādīpa
(Lecturer – Shan State University, Meditation Teacher) |
Born in Malaysia, Ven. Tan Paññādīpa, before turning monk, received his M.Sc. and PhD in Medical sciences from the University of Toronto and worked as a medical scientist for a couple of years in Canada. In 2011 he heeded on his long-term inner calling to become an 8-preceptor yogi seeking meditation guidance mainly in Southeast Asia, and later ordained as a bhikkhu at the Pa-auk Forest Meditation Centre in Myanmar. After several years devoting himself to meditation practice he felt a need to dive deep into scriptural and Buddhist studies. He then went on obtaining Master’s degrees in Buddhist studies at the University of Hong Kong and Shan State Buddhist University in Myanmar. His multidisciplinary academic background in both modern sciences and Buddhist studies led to his appointment as a lecturer at Shan State Buddhist University in 2019, teaching postgraduate courses and supervising research projects in various subjects in applied Buddhist studies. In addition, he has also been a meditation teacher assisting and leading meditation retreats in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Myanmar, and North America. |
