Professor De Souza Oliveira

Professor De Souza Oliveira (Associate Professor – Department of Studies of Justice – Montclair State University – New Jersey) 

Professor DeSouza Oliveira received her master’s degree in Sociology from the federal University in Minas Gerais State, Brazil. She has also received her master’s and PhD degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Rutgers University, New Jersey. She is also à certified meditation instructor in Neurosculpring meditation from the Neurosculpting Institute in Colorado and in Vipassana meditation from Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Program hosted by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. Since 2021 – when she first joined Bhante Suddhaso and his students for a walking meditation in West Orange park she has been inspired by Theravada Buddhism and became a friend of the Empty Cloud monastery community where she has been practiced Meditation and learning about Buddhism.


Professor De Souza Oliveira is an associate professor in the Department of Studies of Justice at Montclair State University in New Jersey. She teaches courses in Criminology, Victimology, Ethics in Justice, Mindfulness in Criminal and Social Justice, Perspectives on Justice, Crime Analysis and Crime Mapping, as well as many other courses in the field of policing and crime prevention in the USA and in developing countries. Professor De Souza Oliveira’s research agenda include the study of homicides, drug markets, public transport crime, victimization and policing. She has published in a variety of national and international peer-reviewed journals.
